🗓️ xAI’s Grok May Soon Edit Spreadsheets, Leaked Code Reveals

Leaked code suggests xAI is building a native file editor for Grok with spreadsheet support—marking a major step toward embedding AI copilots into productivity tools, much like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft.

“You can talk to Grok and ask it to assist you at the same time you’re editing the files!” wrote reverse engineer Nima Owji, who discovered the feature.

While xAI hasn’t confirmed the tool, it aligns with its recent push into multimodal AI. In April, xAI launched Grok Studio, a split-screen workspace for generating code, reports, and documents, along with “Workspaces” to organize files and chats.

If true, this would bring Grok closer to rivals like Google’s Gemini Workspace and Microsoft Copilot—but with the potential for cross-functional integration across X’s social and utility apps. The move would also further Elon Musk’s ambition to turn X into a full “everything app.”

🧠 OpenAI Finds Hidden ‘Personas’ That Shape AI Behavior

OpenAI has removed a promotional video featuring CEO Sam Altman and legendary Apple designer Jony Ive—along with details of its $6.5 billion acquisition of their device startup, io—from its website and YouTube. But contrary to speculation, the deal itself remains intact.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the video was taken down due to a court order, not internal issues. A judge granted a temporary restraining order following a trademark complaint by iyO, an Alphabet X spinout that recently unveiled AI-powered earbuds.

OpenAI confirmed the takedown, updating its site with the message: “This page is temporarily down due to a court order following a trademark complaint from iyO about our use of the name ‘io.’ We don’t agree with the complaint and are reviewing our options.”

The dispute centers on potential consumer confusion over the io name, but OpenAI says this doesn’t affect the underlying acquisition or plans for Ive to lead hardware design.

For now, the video remains viewable on X.

Alexa+ Now Reaches 1M Users, but It’s Still Invite-Only

Amazon’s next-gen assistant, Alexa+, is quietly picking up steam. The generative AI-powered upgrade is now live for over 1 million users, but access is still limited to those on the waitlist. First revealed in February, Alexa+ is Amazon’s push to re-establish relevance in a world now dominated by smarter, more conversational AI like ChatGPT.

Available on select Echo Show devices in the U.S. (8, 10, 15, and 21), Alexa+ offers more natural dialogue, context-aware routines, and deeper smart home integrations. It remembers your preferences, answers questions more intelligently, and can now perform tasks like summarizing emails, generating custom bedtime stories, or booking restaurant reservations — thanks to integrations with OpenTable, Ticketmaster, Uber Eats, and others.

For now, Alexa+ is free during Early Access, and will remain free for Prime users at launch. Others will need to pay $19.99/month when it becomes generally available. Amazon says 90% of announced features are now live, and the rollout will continue to Fire TVs and tablets next.

Early user feedback is mixed — some say it finally outpaces Siri, others feel it’s still in beta form. But one thing’s clear: Alexa+ is Amazon’s most serious attempt yet to bring its assistant into the generative AI era — and turn it into a revenue-generating platform.
