š¬ OpenAI Launches Sora App with Next-Gen Sora 2 Model

OpenAI revealed Sora, a new social app built around generative video, alongside its upgraded Sora 2 model. The app lets users generate and share short videos of themselves ā or with others ā in dynamic scenes, circulating through a feed reminiscent of TikTok.
A key feature is ācameos,ā where users record a video/audio sample of themselves and grant permission for others to include their likeness in scene-based videos. This allows shared generated content involving multiple people. To preserve safety and consent, users can revoke access to their likeness at any time.
Sora 2 brings improved realism: it better follows the laws of physics so objects donāt warp unnaturally, and offers more stable, believable motion in generated scenes. Public examples include beach volleyball, gymnastics, and diving sequences.
At launch, the Sora app is invite-only in the U.S. and Canada, while the Sora 2 model is available to ChatGPT Pro users, who can bypass the invite requirement. The platform includes parental controls, like limiting algorithmic personalization or message access, especially for younger users.
The app is free at introduction, with monetization plans potentially tied to video generation usage during peak demand times.
š OpenAI Rolls Out āBuy It in ChatGPTā with Agentic Commerce Protocol

OpenAI is taking a bold step into the world of commerce by introducing Instant Checkout inside ChatGPT, powered by what it calls the Agentic Commerce Protocol. Instead of directing users to external sites, ChatGPT can now facilitate direct purchases from merchantsāall without leaving the chat interface.
At launch, U.S. users (Free, Plus, and Pro tiers) can buy items listed by Etsy sellers right inside ChatGPT. OpenAI says that support for over a million Shopify merchants, including Glossier and SKIMS, is coming soon. The system currently supports single-item purchases, with plans to expand to multi-item carts and more regions later.
The underlying protocol, co-developed with Stripe, is designed to be open and extensible. It allows AI agents, users, and merchants to interact in a standardized way. Importantly, merchants retain control over payments, fulfillment, and customer dataāthe system merely acts as an intelligent intermediary. OpenAI says itās also open-sourcing the Agentic Commerce Protocol so others can integrate it into their systems.
Under the hood, when a user asks something like ābest running shoes under $100,ā ChatGPT shows relevant product options. If a product supports Instant Checkout, users can tap āBuy,ā confirm shipping and payment info, and complete the purchase right there. The system routes transaction and fulfillment via the merchantās existing setup; ChatGPT doesnāt hold or manage inventory.
OpenAI emphasizes user trust and safety. Payments are encrypted and token-based; personal data shared with merchants is minimal and permission-based.
The service is free for users, and Instant Checkout status doesnāt confer ranking advantage in product results. Rankings still rely on relevance, availability, quality, and merchant performance.
They see this as a first step toward āagentic commerce,ā where AI agents donāt just suggest what to buy ā they help you buy it. Over time, OpenAI hopes more merchants will adopt the protocol, enabling a richer in-chat buying experience globally.
š Google Expands Its AI Plus Plan to 40+ Countries

OpenAI is introducing ChatGPT Pulse, a new feature that automatically generates personalized morning briefings for users while they sleep. Pulse delivers five to ten AI-crafted reports each day ā think of it as a ādaily digestā that greets you when you wake up, covering news, your schedule, or other personalized topics.
Unlike traditional chat features, Pulse works proactively ā it doesnāt wait for you to ask. It will appear as a new tab inside ChatGPT (initially for Pro subscribers) where users can tap into brief summaries on topics like current events, calendar plans, or even suggested itineraries. Pulse can draw on integrated apps like Gmail and Calendar, and build context from past chats when users have memory enabled.
OpenAI suggests the goal is to turn ChatGPT from a reactive assistant into one that anticipates your information needs. The company also designs Pulse to stop after a few reports each morning, avoiding the unlimited scroll trap of news apps. Long term, they envision it making proactive moves like drafting emails or reserving restaurants ā but those features will come later.
Pulse is rolling out first for Pro-tier users ($200/month) in the U.S. and Canada. OpenAI plans to extend access to Plus and Free users over time as the modelās efficiency improves.
