🕶️ Meta Unveils Ray-Ban Smart Glasses with Display & Wristband Control

Meta revealed a new pair of Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, featuring a built-in display for apps, alerts, and directions on the right lens. A Neural Band wristband—picked up during gestures via electromyography (EMG)—lets users control the glasses; it lasts about 18 hours on a charge and is water-resistant.

Priced at $799 and available from September 30, the glasses let you view apps like Instagram and WhatsApp, see live translations, and access directions, all hands-free. The Neural Band lets you navigate without needing to touch anything, using subtle hand gestures.

These glasses represent Meta’s move to put more AI experiences directly into hardware, challenging the dominance of smartphones. While they lack the full AR/eye-tracking capabilities of Meta’s demo Orion glasses, the company aims to hit the market first and build momentum.

🍌 Gemini Tops App Store Thanks to “Nano Banana” Image Model

Gemini’s mobile app shot to #1 in the App Store after releasing its “Nano Banana” image-editor model, which lets users make more complex, realistic edits much more easily. The update has boosted downloads by 45% month-over-month, with 12.6 million installs so far this September, up from 8.7 million in August.

It’s the first time Gemini has stayed at the top spot consistently—knocking ChatGPT to #2—and it’s one of the top apps across 100+ countries. On Google Play, it also surged from #26 to #2 in the U.S., though ChatGPT still owns the top spot there.

User engagement and spending are rising too: Gemini has generated ~$1.6 million on iOS in August alone, a dramatic leap from earlier in the year. The model has clearly struck a chord with creators who value more control and better image quality.

🛑 OpenAI Tightens ChatGPT Rules for Teen Users

OpenAI is rolling out new safety restrictions for ChatGPT users under 18, aiming to make the tool safer for teens amid rising concerns from parents, educators, and regulators.

Under the new rules, ChatGPT will block flirtatious or sexually suggestive conversations with minors. When a teen user brings up suicidal thoughts or self-harm, the system will trigger alerts for parents and, in severe cases, notify authorities. Parents will also gain more control through “blackout hours,” which allow them to restrict when their child can access ChatGPT.

The move comes after a wrongful death lawsuit linked to ChatGPT interactions and broader scrutiny of how generative AI affects young people. By tightening these safeguards, OpenAI is signaling that it takes teen safety seriously—while balancing the challenge of keeping AI useful, engaging, and responsible.
